Our weekly meetings consist of a screening of an arthouse film, followed by a discussion. The discussion is led by one of our members, or sometimes a guest speaker, and encourages members to share their thoughts and interpretations of the film.
Calcutta 71 (1972)
A gritty meditation on poverty, natural disasters, and political turmoil in India, linked through the spirit of a condemned student wandering through time. The film weaves four stories: a middle-class family’s home crumbling under monsoon rains, a clan’s moral compromises during famine, young boys smuggling rice, and politicians pitying the poor while living in luxury. A poignant exploration of the struggles for survival amidst India’s harsh realities.
