Movie Night: Harakiri(1962) with The Parallel Cinema Club

In 17th century feudal Japan, a desperate ronin seeks to perform ritual suicide at a prosperous lord’s estate. As the narrative unfolds, a tale of great personal tragedy is revealed.

In Harakiri, Masaki Kobayashi challenges romanticised depictions of samurai culture, instead providing a critique of social hierarchy and blind adherence to tradition.

Who are The Parallel Cinema Club?

We are a community-run film society based out of Bangalore and Hyderabad. We are a group of film enthusiasts who meet up once a week to discuss the reel world, auteurs and themes, and occasionally host guest lectures.
