Sátántangó (1994) by The Parallel Cinema Club

“One of the great, largely unseeable movies of the last dozen years.”
- Hoberman for The Village Voice

Bela Tarr’s adapted epic, is a 7 hour episodic film about the chaos in a small village after the fall of communism in Hungary. Considered his informal “magnum opus”, the film is flavoured with his usual nihilistic pessimism around the existential sentence imposed on a society through the government.
It follows the raw lives of the villagers as they gradually come to terms with the state of their country and their own lives.
